Entry Requirements for Cats and Dogs
Microchip
Microchipping is not mandatory for entry into Armenia, but it is strongly recommended. The microchip should comply with ISO 11784/11785 standards. It allows reliable identification of the pet and connection to its health records.
Deworming (Internal Parasite Treatment)
Deworming is not officially mandatory for entry into Armenia, but it is highly recommended to ensure your pet’s health and avoid possible delays at border inspection.
The treatment should be done within 5 days before travel and be recorded in the veterinary certificate or passport, indicating the product name and treatment date.
Rabies Vaccination
Rabies vaccination is mandatory for both dogs and cats entering Armenia.
- The vaccine must be administered at least 30 days before entry.
- First vaccination must be done only after the pet reaches 12 weeks of age.
- The vaccination must be valid at the time of entry.
ⓘ Are additional vaccinations mandatory?
Some sources or airline recommendations may suggest that pets must be vaccinated against diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, or panleukopenia before traveling. However, these are not mandatory for entry into Kazakhstan or other EAEU countries.
According to official regulations (Decision No. 317 of the EAEU), the only mandatory vaccinations for cats and dogs are:
- Rabies vaccination (must be valid at the time of entry)
- Internal parasite treatment (e.g., deworming) — required only in specific cases
All other vaccinations are considered optional and not required for customs clearance. No border authority will refuse entry due to the absence of vaccinations such as distemper or parvovirus.
We recommend these additional vaccines only for the pet’s health and safety, especially when transiting through countries or interacting with other animals during travel.
Veterinary Certificate (Health Certificate)
The certificate must be issued on the official letterhead of a veterinary clinic in the USA, signed and stamped by a licensed veterinarian.
It must be written in English. Certificates issued only in Russian or Armenian are not recommended, especially when transiting through third countries.
ⓘ Recommended veterinary certificate content — especially when transiting through third countries
For entry into Kazakhstan, the veterinary certificate can be issued in any format as long as it is completed by a licensed veterinarian and contains all required health and identification information.
While Kazakhstan does not require a specific certificate form, we strongly recommend including the following details — especially if the pet is traveling via transit through third countries (such as EU, Turkey, UAE, etc.), where stricter formal checks may apply.
Click to view the recommended content of the certificate:
- Owner’s full name and contact address in Kazakhstan
- Pet’s species, breed, color, sex, age, and name
- Microchip number and date of implantation
- Rabies vaccination: date, manufacturer, batch number, expiration date
- Treatment against internal parasites (deworming): date and product name
- Clinical examination performed within 5 days before departure
- Veterinary clinic details: name, address, phone number
- Veterinarian’s full name, signature, and official stamp of the clinic
⚠️ The certificate must be written in English. If issued in another language, it must be accompanied by a certified English translation to ensure smooth customs processing in transit countries.
It is strongly advised that the certificate include clear contact information of the issuing veterinary clinic.
