Pet Movement Legislation

Country of Departure

Pet Transport from the USA to Kazakhstan
– Rules and Documents

Key Preparation Steps

  • Pets must be at least 4 months old at the time of entry.
  • Microchip implantation (recommended, not mandatory).
  • Rabies vaccination at least 30 days before entry (required).
  • Veterinary certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian in the USA.
  • Clinical examination conducted within 5 days prior to travel.
  • Deworming treatment before departure (required only in specific cases).

Microchip

Microchipping is not mandatory for entering Kazakhstan, but it is strongly recommended. The microchip should comply with ISO 11784/11785 standards and helps link the pet to its documents.

Rabies Vaccination

  • Mandatory for both dogs and cats.
  • The vaccine must be administered no earlier than 12 weeks of age.
  • At least 30 days must pass from the date of vaccination before entry.
  • The vaccination must be valid on the day of travel.
ⓘ Are additional vaccinations mandatory?

Some sources or airline recommendations may suggest that pets must be vaccinated against diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, or panleukopenia before traveling. However, these are not mandatory for entry into Kazakhstan or other EAEU countries.

According to official regulations (Decision No. 317 of the EAEU), the only mandatory vaccinations for cats and dogs are:

  • Rabies vaccination (must be valid at the time of entry)

  • Internal parasite treatment (e.g., deworming) — required only in specific cases

All other vaccinations are considered optional and not required for customs clearance. No border authority will refuse entry due to the absence of vaccinations such as distemper or parvovirus.

We recommend these additional vaccines only for the pet’s health and safety, especially when transiting through countries or interacting with other animals during travel.

Deworming Treatment

Deworming is not universally mandatory, but may be required depending on the destination region in Kazakhstan. It is recommended to perform deworming treatment 5–10 days before travel to avoid border delays.

Veterinary Certificate

The certificate can be issued in any format, but must be signed by a licensed veterinarian on an official clinic letterhead. It should be written in English.
