– Entry Rules and Documentation
Requirements for Bringing Pets into Georgia
Microchip Requirement
Each pet must be microchipped before traveling to Georgia. The microchip must:
- Be implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination.
- Comply with ISO 11784/11785 standards for international compatibility.
Rabies Vaccination
A valid rabies vaccination is required for entry into Georgia. It must be administered at least 21 days prior to travel and is only considered valid if:
- The microchip was inserted before or on the same day as the vaccination.
- The vaccine is still within its validity period on the day of entry.
Rabies Antibody Titer Test
Georgia requires a rabies antibody titer test for pets arriving from Serbia. This involves:
- Collecting a blood sample at least 30 days after rabies vaccination.
- Sending the sample to an EU-approved laboratory.
- Receiving a result that confirms antibody levels of 0.5 IU/ml or higher.
- Waiting 3 months from the date of the positive result before entry into Georgia.
EU Veterinary Health Certificate
Pets must travel with an official veterinary certificate issued in Serbia. The certificate must include:
- Date of microchip implantation and chip number.
- Titer test results: date of sampling, laboratory used, and antibody levels.
- Veterinary certificate must be completed in English and signed by a licensed veterinarian.
Parasite Treatment (Recommended)
Although not mandatory, treatment against internal and external parasites is highly recommended before departure. This helps ensure your pet's comfort and health during travel and may prevent complications at transit or entry points.
Key Reminders
- Ensure all veterinary documentation is accurate and complete before travel.
- Plan rabies vaccination and titer test well in advance to meet Georgia’s 3-month waiting period.
- Even though not obligatory, parasite treatment is advisable for safe and stress-free travel.
