– Entry Rules and Required Documents
Veterinary Entry Requirements for Georgia
Microchip Identification
Each pet must be microchipped before departure. The microchip must:
- Be implanted prior to or on the day of rabies vaccination.
- Comply with ISO 11784/11785 standards to be readable by international scanners.
Rabies Vaccination
The rabies vaccine must be valid at the time of entry and administered no fewer than 21 days before travel. It is only valid if:
- The pet was microchipped before or on the same day as vaccination.
- The vaccine meets international standards and remains current.
Rabies Antibody Titer Test
A rabies titer test is mandatory when bringing a pet from Switzerland to Georgia. The process must follow these steps:
- The blood sample must be taken at least 30 days after rabies vaccination.
- The test must be performed in an approved EU laboratory.
- The result must show an antibody level of 0.5 IU/ml or higher.
- After a positive result, your pet must wait 3 months before entering Georgia.
Veterinary Health Certificate
An official health certificate must be issued in Switzerland and completed in English. It should include:
- Date of microchip implantation and unique identification number.
- Rabies vaccination details – date, product name, batch number, and expiry.
- Rabies antibody titer test information – sampling date, lab, and result.
- View official certificate format.
➕ Why EU Pet Passports Are Not Accepted by Georgian Authorities
Although pet passports are widely used within Europe, Georgia does not accept them as official entry documents. Here's why:
- The EU pet passport is not an internationally recognized certificate outside the EU.
- Georgian law requires a separate veterinary certificate issued in English.
- Even if all vaccines are documented in the passport, it does not meet the entry requirements.
Parasite Treatment
There is no official requirement for deworming or flea/tick treatment before entering Georgia. However, treating your pet for parasites 5–10 days prior to travel is strongly advised for comfort and health protection.
Final Checklist Before Departure
- Ensure the veterinary certificate is correctly completed and signed.
- Verify that rabies vaccination is valid on the travel date.
- Allow sufficient time for titer testing and the 3-month waiting period.
- Use only the Georgian-approved health certificate, not a pet passport.
