➕ Common mistakes when preparing pet travel documents from Switzerland to Russia
When transporting cats and dogs internationally, most problems at the border occur not because documents are missing, but because of small mistakes in how veterinary documents were prepared.
For the route Switzerland → Russia, the following issues are among the most common:
- The microchip number recorded in the pet passport and veterinary certificate does not match or cannot be clearly verified during border control.
- The rabies vaccination was administered before the microchip was implanted, which may make the vaccination invalid for international travel.
- The rabies vaccination was performed too recently before departure and the required waiting period was not respected.
- The veterinary health certificate was issued too early before travel, which may cause it to expire before the date of entry.
- Different documents contain inconsistent information about the pet (microchip number, date of birth, or vaccination details).
- Mandatory additional vaccinations are missing or not properly recorded in the veterinary passport. For dogs this usually includes distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis. For cats this usually includes panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus.
Even a small inconsistency in veterinary documents may lead to delays during veterinary border control or the need to urgently reissue documents before travel.
