Main Entry Requirements for Cats and Dogs

International Veterinary Passport

A veterinary passport with up-to-date entries is required and must include:

  • Rabies vaccination given no less than 20 days before travel and not more than 12 months prior to entry.

Parasite Treatment

  • Mandatory: Deworming must be done within 1–5 days before travel and recorded in the pet’s passport.
  • External parasite treatment (fleas, ticks) is not required but strongly recommended.

Veterinary Certificate (if no EU Pet Passport)

  • Issued by a licensed veterinarian in Switzerland.
  • Must be validated by local veterinary authorities.
  • Should include:
    • Details of rabies vaccination (date, batch number, validity).
    • Microchip information (number, implantation date).
    • Clinical health confirmation.
    • Parasite treatment records.

Form No. 5A (if applicable)

  • Issued in Russia before departure and valid for re-entry within 90 days.
  • If expired, new documents must be prepared before returning to Russia.

Microchip

Not mandatory for entry to Russia but highly recommended for identification purposes.


Number of Pets

Up to two pets per person are allowed. Transporting more than two pets may require special permission from Russian veterinary authorities.

  • Parasite treatment is mandatory for both cats and dogs.
