Requirements for Importing Cats and Dogs from the United Kingdom to Turkey
Mandatory Microchip for Pets Traveling from the UK to Turkey
All cats and dogs entering Turkey must be microchipped before receiving a rabies vaccination. The microchip must comply with ISO 11784/11785 standards.
Rabies Vaccination
- Mandatory for all cats and dogs.
- The vaccination must be administered at least 21 days before entry if it is the primary vaccination.
- The vaccination must remain valid at the time of travel.
Rabies Antibody Titer Test (Blood Test)
- Required for pets entering Turkey from the UK.
- Blood for the test must be drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination.
- The antibody level must be ≥ 0.5 IU/ml.
- The test must be conducted in an EU-recognized laboratory.
- Pets must wait 3 months after the blood test before entry into Turkey.
Veterinary Health Certificate
The certificate must be issued by a licensed veterinarian in the UK no earlier than 10 days before travel. The certificate must include:
- Microchip information.
- Rabies vaccination details (date, batch number, validity).
- Rabies antibody titer test results (date of test, antibody level, laboratory).
- Confirmation of the pet’s clinical health.
Mandatory requirement: The certificate must be translated into Turkish or accompanied by a notarized translation. Turkey does not always accept documents solely in English.
Parasite Treatment (Deworming)
Mandatory for both cats and dogs. Treatment for internal and external parasites must be administered 24–120 hours (1–5 days) before entry. The veterinarian must record the treatment details in the certificate.
Number of Pets Allowed
For non-commercial purposes, up to two pets per owner are allowed. If traveling with more than two pets, additional documentation or permits may be required.
Transport Conditions
Ensure pets are transported in IATA-approved carriers that provide comfort and safety. Confirm the airline’s pet travel policies, as requirements may vary.
