UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from 25 February 2026 — Travelling with a Pet? Avoid Delays
UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

Travelling with a pet? One missing ETA can delay everything
This is an official travel readiness notice from Lisko Travel Tour.
The UK Government’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement comes into effect on 25 February 2026.
An ETA will be mandatory for all travellers who do not hold a British or Irish passport, including many nationalities previously able to enter the UK without pre-travel authorisation. Travellers who hold a valid UK entry visa are exempt from the ETA requirement.
What this means in practice
If you fall under the new rules, you must obtain an ETA before travelling. This applies to all adult and child passengers.
Travellers without a valid ETA will not be permitted to travel on the day of departure, regardless of booking status. Checks will be carried out prior to departure.
Travelling with a cat or dog? Be especially careful
When a pet is involved, a refusal to travel is not “just a delay”. It can disrupt a carefully calculated entry plan.
A missing ETA may lead to:
- a postponed departure and a changed entry date for your pet
- problems with veterinary document timing and compliance
- additional costs due to rebooking and re-planning
With pet travel, even a one-day shift can affect compliance windows. That is why ETA must be checked and approved well in advance.
Important: refusal to travel means rebooking
Customers refused travel due to not holding an ETA will need to purchase a new ticket to travel on an alternative date. Responsibility for holding the appropriate travel authorisation rests with the traveller.
Recommendation from Lisko Travel Tour
We strongly recommend that you:
- confirm whether your nationality requires an ETA
- apply early and wait for approval before travelling
- if travelling with a pet, verify that your travel date aligns with all veterinary timelines
If you are travelling with a cat or dog and you want to reduce risk, the most reliable step is a professional document review before departure.
